The transition to university life marks a critical period in shaping the values, attitudes, and behaviors of students. For first-year students of Cagayan State University, a Gender Sensitivity Seminar provides a foundational opportunity to promote awareness and understanding of gender-related issues, which are vital in building an inclusive, respectful, and equitable learning environment.
Many incoming students may come from diverse cultural backgrounds with varying degrees of exposure to gender concepts. This seminar will help correct misconceptions, address stereotypes, and cultivate empathy—empowering students to contribute positively to a campus culture that upholds the rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of gender identity or expression.
Moreover, the seminar aligns with the university's commitment to mainstreaming Gender and Development (GAD) across all programs and services. By introducing gender sensitivity at the onset of their academic journey, students are encouraged to be more conscious of their roles in advancing gender equality not just within the university but also in their future professions and communities.
The seminar also supports national mandates such as the Magna Carta of Women and CHED Memorandum Orders on GAD integration, ensuring that CSU remains a proactive institution in promoting gender fairness and human rights education.
