TUGUEGARAO CITY -- “You are not in the in the lowest, you are not even in the middle, but you are in the top rank: Instruction, research, and community service.”
These were the words of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis as she lauded Cagayan State University (CSU) for its excellence in instruction, research, and community service during her visit at the CSU Andrews Campus for the university’s 97th Regular Board of Regents Meeting.
Dr. Agrupis, who served as the guest of honor, was warmly received by first-year and second-year Physical Education students who performed the university anthem “Tatak CSU” under the morning sun.
She was accompanied by the University President Dr. Arthuz Ibañez, Campus Executive Officer Atty. Carla Marie Sumigad, former Regent John Lester Jaime, newly elected Regent Kyle Aron Tan, and other key officials of the CSU Board of Regents.
In her address during the welcome ceremony, Dr. Agrupis expressed her gratitude for the festive welcome and applauded CSU’s consistent excellence as a state university.
“More than the banderitas, the very joyful CSU hymn, the warm welcome and warm smile that you all have thrown para sa akin, did not just rekindle the childhood in me as Cagayana, but all your beautiful faces and your merry, merry, merry, beautiful songs now serve as the wind behind my wings. Strong not just wind but tornado to face this great responsibility “
She emphasized that studying at CSU is not just an opportunity but a great privilege.
“To all students: it is not just an opportunity to be enrolled at Cagayan State University -- it is a fortune. Among the 113 state universities in the Philippines, CSU stands in the top rank.”
Dr. Agrupis concluded her speech by affirming the university’s continued excellence in delivering quality education and public service and reminding the students of their shared ambition of reaching higher quality education.
“As your Chairperson in this higher education institution, your free higher tuition fee in Cagayan State University does not at all come free. It comes with a responsibility.”
The welcome ceremony was followed by the official 97th Board of Regents Meeting, which convened key university leaders to discuss ongoing programs and strategic directions for the institution.
