Athletes from Cagayan State University Andrews who competed in the 2025 National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Games paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Executive Officer of Andrews Campus, Carla Marie Sumigad, May 6.
During the visit, Sumigad extended her heartfelt gratitude to the athletes for proudly representing the university, particularly the Andrews Campus, on the national stage, commending their courage and dedication in bringing pride to the school.
Among the delegation were Lois Claire Alcantara, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Accounting Information System student who earned a bronze medal in the Arnis Padded Pin Weight Category, and Alben Adonijah Cangas, a fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management student who also secured a bronze medal in the Karatedo Individual Kumite (84kg division).
Alcantara shared that the administration, particularly Atty. Sumigad, had been supportive from the very beginning-being physically present at the venue to watch and cheer them on, offering words of encouragement, and providing financial assistance throughout their participation.
“What truly melted our hearts was how she made time to check on us after our games, both in Camiguin and even when we returned to Andrews. That kind of support really meant a lot,” Alcantara added.
Alcantara and Cangas will each receive a cash incentive for their exemplary performance in the national competition, as provided in the revised student manual.
Joining the medalists during their visit were Ciara Imogen Bunagan, who competed in the Futsal Women’s Category; Marian Hernandez, who participated in the Taekwondo Women’s Welter Division; Louise Jessica E. Andam, who competed in Arnis under the Combative Padded Stick (Open Weight Category), Likhang Anyo Traditional Single Weapon, and Combative Live Stick (Open Weight Category); Jhaeylo Anne B. Montilla, who joined the Arnis Combative Padded Stick (Bantam Weight Category); and Janelle Vey G. Ayadawa, who competed in the Arnis Combative Padded Stick (Feather Weight Category).
Bannering the theme "Advancing SUC Unity, Elevating Sports Excellence for Sustainable Development," the national games, held in Camiguin from April 22 to 27, gathered around 8,000 students and coaches from 16 regions represented by State Universities and Colleges (SUCs).
