January 18, 2024 | Cagayan State University Andrews Campus has been awarded a research grant of 3.75 million pesos for institutionally funded research projects by the University President herself, Dr. Urdujah G. Alvarado. Under this grant, three research initiatives have been selected for funding, namely "Development and Evaluation of CorBaBoo Herbal Powder Beverage Mix as Adjunct Therapy for Bacterial Infections," "PhiLDD: Philippine Lichens as Sources of Novel Bioactive Secondary Metabolites for Drug Discovery," and "Indigenous Chants and Cantillations of Cagayan." These projects aim to contribute to scientific knowledge, innovation, and the preservation of local heritage.

Research Projects:

1. Development and Evaluation of CorBaBoo Herbal Powder Beverage Mix as Adjunct Therapy for Bacterial Infections: Led by Dr. Jinky Marie T. Chua, this research project focuses on exploring the potential of CorBaBoo, a blend of corn silk, banana peel, and bamboo shoots, as an adjunct therapy for bacterial infections. The team aims to evaluate its potential as an adjunct therapy for bacterial infections. This research aligns with the global effort to combat antibiotic resistance and promote alternative treatment options.

2. PhiLDD: Philippine Lichens as Sources of Novel Bioactive Secondary Metabolites for Drug Discovery: Dr. Julius T. Capili leads the PhiLDD research project, which investigates the unique bioactive secondary metabolites found in Philippine lichens. The study aims to identify novel compounds that could potentially be used in drug discovery. This research has the potential to contribute to the exploration of the Philippines' rich biodiversity for potential drug discovery.

3. Indigenous Chants and Cantillations of Cagayan: Dr. Ian Roger Francisco leads the research project on the indigenous chants and cantillations of Cagayan. This initiative aims to document and preserve the traditional oral heritage of Cagayan through the collection and analysis of indigenous chants and cantillations. By studying these cultural expressions, the team seeks to promote awareness, appreciation, and preservation of Cagayan's intangible cultural heritage. This research project contributes to the preservation of local traditions and the recognition of indigenous knowledge.

CSU Andrews Campus is fully committed to the successful implementation of these research projects. By upholding this commitment, the Campus aims to foster innovation and excellence within the university and promote growth as a leading research institution. We are grateful to President Alvarado for her trust and support to Andrews Campus.
